In a drunken rage, off-duty Police Officer Charlie Kelly shoved his service revolver down his wife's throat and threatened to blow her head off. His buddies hurried to hustle Charlie out of the bar and get his wife to safety, but they were too late. Internal Affairs Lieutenant Mark Alexander saw it all and started calling the Chief of Police even before Charlie was herded out the door.
Against the advice of his deputy, the City Solicitor and the Chief of Police, Mayor Connor Rafferty fired Officer Kelly, and set the stage for union president Nick Feretti and City attorney Ann Bennett to square off -- Nick to get Kelly his job back and Ann to keep Kelly off the City police force at all costs.
Set against the backdrop of a former Pennsylvania coal town, Officer Kelly is a story about politics and power, questionable labor union practices, and simmering passion. Explosive and provocative, Officer Kelly questions why labor unions defend indefensible behavior, and examines the ethical dilemma that results when fair play clashes with a union's duty of fair representation.
